The muted, bluish tones in the leaves give a break to the wall of green a garden can take. The pea-like blue flowers resemble lupines and are one of my favorite flowers.

This is a nitrogen fixing plant and can be used as part of an orchard or perennial garden system.

Baptisia grows slowly over time into a multistemmed shrub. Seed pods are fun to use as rattles or make a nice accent in a dried flower arrangement.

Occurs naturally in thickets, streambanks, and rich woods.
